The Gulf Cooperation Council, which launches its annual summit today in Kuwait amid its deepest ever internal crisis, comprises six Arab monarchies who sit on a third of the world's oil. A political and economic union, the GCC comprises Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. Dominated by Riyadh, it is a major regional counterweight to rival Iran.

كشف أمين عام مجلس التعاون الخليجي، جاسم البديوي، عن إن «لجنة التعاون المالي والاقتصادي بالمجلس تعمل على تعزيز التعاون بين دوله»، موضحا إن «الدول الخليجية حققت إنجازات كبيرة في المجال الاقتصادي خلال الفترة الماضية»، مشيرا إلى أن «إجمالي التجارة البينية بين دول المجلس وصل لنحو 105 مليارات دولار أميركي، وفقا لإحصائيات 2021».
ولفت إلى أن «عدد مواطني الدول الخليجية، الذين قاموا برحلات بينية بين دولهم ودول أخرى داخل المجلس بلغ نحو 7 ملايين فرد، بينما بلغت التراخيص التي حصلوا عليها للعمل في دول أخرى غير دولهم داخل مجلس التعاون الخليجي نحو ألف رخصة».
